Jīngzhé means 'awakening of hidden insects.' Legend says that on this day, thunder惊醒 all creatures from winter slumber. Ancient farmers would beat drums and make loud noises to ensure all insects were truly awake — protecting their spring crops. It's also the birthday of the goddess Guanyin in Buddhist tradition.
Liquorice Tea (甘草茶), pears, and foods that support liver health. Liquorice (gancao) was traditionally used to moderate the liver's energy and reduce internal heat. Pears moisten the lungs and throat.
Story: On Jīngzhé, farmers would beat drums and shout to wake the insects that had slept through winter, protecting their spring crops. The custom symbolized renewal and the victory of life over dormancy. It is also Guanyin's birthday in Buddhist tradition.
