White Dew
Sep 7–9 · 金 · Metal
Typically falls on September 7–9. Named for the white dew that forms on grass and leaves as temperatures drop at night — a clear sign autumn has truly arrived.
Báilù marks the appearance of white dew on grass and leaves — cold night air condensing on cool surfaces. Ancient Chinese saw this as a powerful symbol of yin energy growing stronger. It was considered the most beautiful time of year and a perfect season for outdoor gatherings, poetry, and appreciating nature's transition.
Tremella Mushroom (银耳) — nourishes yin and润肺, especially valuable during Báilù's drying trend. Chrysanthemum in tea and food. Longan (龙眼) — in season, believed to nourish blood and strengthen the heart.
Story: On Báilù, ancient scholars would hold poetry gatherings in gardens, appreciating the delicate white dew on petals and leaves. It was considered a time of poetic inspiration — the moment when summer's luxuriance fully gave way to autumn's quiet elegance.
Báilù is when dryness really starts to kick in. If you have dry skin, sore throat, or a dry cough, now is the time to aggressively润肺. Tremella mushroom (银耳) is excellent — find it in Asian grocery stores. Honey and pears should become daily staples.
